There’s lots of options when it comes to webhosting.
Prices scale the range, and plans vary, but for the most part, you really do get what you pay for.
But more costly hosting plans don’t necessarily equal a “better” webhosting plan.

You have to find that balance between cost effective, and usefulness for your own needs based on what your websites require (NOT what YOU require).

Most plans nowadays include a lot of “unlimited” features like:
unlimited disk space
unlimited storage of files (number of)
unlimited bandwith
unlimited email accounts
unlimited ftp accounts
etc., etc.

Of course “unlimited” has different meanings to many companies.
Unlimited doesn’t truly really mean “unlimited.”
Most companies base unlimited on an average, based on what other users are using.
They have their standards and if you go over these standards, you’ve exceeded the normal usage range (meaning you will have to upgrade your hosting package).
So make sure you actually read their terms and conditions, usage policies, and the similar info!
You will more than likely stay with this hosting company for a long time (assuming everything goes well), so spend the extra time to see exactly what you can and can not do with the plan!
Trust me, the extra hour it takes you to evaluate and compare all the different companies and plans NOW, will save you grief & aggravation later!

After trying many different webhosts, including hostmonster, hostgator and several others, I believe I have finally found one that suits my websites needs.
Of course, I’m not saying that these other companies are bad, in fact, they are not, I still have accounts with them.
What I am saying, is that, because of the special needs I have (with this city site you’re reading now + a few others), it requires a different level of service.
It’s still on a “shared” host, but because of the large size it takes up (disk space, quantity of files, bandwidth, etc.), I needed to get it onto a server that could support it.

The webhosting plan I use now was chosen since it’s inexpensive, reliable, and most important, the servers are relatively fast (for a shared hosting environment).
Customer service (from the reviews I’ve read) is excellent, with the actual owner of the company responding to queries a lot of the time! How’s that for customer service!
Someone who actually cares! Now that’s a change considering that most hosting companies nowadays outsource their customer support to 3rd world countries.

You might think initially as I did, that since the owner himself sometimes returns emails, that the company is just trying to save money on support.

Perhaps they are, but look at it this way also:
Do you want support from India (or elsewhere), from someone who probably knows nothing about what your needs are, or who can give you the assistance that you require, or help resolve the issues you have (that need attention RIGHT NOW)…
Or would you like support from someone who actually knows their own business, who most likely deals with similar problems every single day about their own equipment & services, someone who I imagine gets the same type of questions day in and day out, who can probably help you out lightning fast, and get you back up & running RIGHT NOW!?
I know which I’d choose!

Choosing the right web hosting plan for your needs IS a big deal.
Don’t simply select one based on price (although yes, that is a big factor).
Do research.
Read the reviews about each company.
Ask around.
Compare.

Remember, you will be with this new company for awhile (hopefully), so choose correctly before selecting.
It’s a pain to move your websites to a new host…
Especially if you have more than one…
I’ve done it 3 times now… and I’ve got better things to do than waste time transferring files.

Unless something terrible happens, I think I’m done moving now.

I hate when people make recommendations based on how much they personally will make, so I vowed never to do that to others.

As I stated previously, I was happy to use (& still am) all of the above, it just depends on what your website requirements are.
